Title: Destiny’s Fire
Release Date: January 10, 2012
Blurb:
It’s the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind—part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.
As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate… if she can trust him.
Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.

Why do you write in the genre you write?
I’ve read and loved YA my whole life. It’s a huge part of who I am. But more importantly, I think it’s because it reaches out to many age groups, not just young adults. I love that my characters can connect with someone who’s just discovering life, and that they can remind others what is what like to be just discovering life. Another reason is because there are no boundaries in YA. It’s limitless. I feel I can write forever in this genre and never run out of material.
What other genres would you consider and why?:
I’ve actually considered Crossover or New Adult. Only because at some point, I want to write a bit more mature scenes for my characters. I’m big with the romance and steamy, and I’d like to focus fully on the romantic relationship for the plot, and show it developing physically as well as emotionally. Not saying that can’t be done in strictly YA, but there are some lines I don’t cross in my YA Books as far as “showing."
Can you give us a hint of something else you’re working on?:
My agent is currently shopping around a YA Dystopia/Historical about a reluctant princess forced to betroth a full-of-himself prince in a futuristic, domed society constructed after Camelot. It’s full of gorgeous gowns, sword fights, and of course, romance.
